Staying in Phuket – the popular choices

When visiting Thailand for the first time, one of the best places to stay at is Phuket. The island offers great variety of options and activities for any kind of traveler. It has beautiful beaches, lovely hotels and hostels, great nightlife – with plenty of restaurants and bars. There are a few main areas where I highly recommend you consider your stay.

  1. Patong

If you are a solo traveler, backpacker or someone headed for nightlife – Patong is your place. The area has plenty of budget accommodation options. A lot of people go there on their own – so you can make new friends and plan some fun activities together. Patong is famous for its nightlife and you will definitely never get bored there – from restaurants to live music bars and strip clubs – they are all in one area so you can easily move between places and enjoy a lovely sunrise on Patong beach at the end of your wild night.

  1. Karon

Only 15 min drive from Patong is Karon. This area is perfect for travelers who prefer a peaceful holiday, yet not too far from the party area of the island. Karon is less crowded and has a lovely beach, a lot of great restaurants and local bars. It is also a bit cheaper than Patong so you can stay there and just take a shuttle bus to Patong whenever you feel like going out for a wild night.

  1. Kata Beach

My personal favorite!!! This area is perfect if you want to indulge in a peaceful beach paradise holiday. There are mainly couples and families, it’s really clean and has an amazing beach. It’s a 20min drive from Patong so you can easily get there anytime you want to try out the famous Phuket nightlife. However, Kata Beach has its own restaurants and lovely bars and pubs so you will not get bored during your stay.

  1. Phuket Town

Phuket town is located in central Phuket and not a typical tropical location with beach views, however it has its own spirit – a mixture of old an new. The centre of Phuket town is called Old Town or Thalang Road, which is lined with colorful 19th-century shophouses and Sino-Portuguese buildings, which were built in 1903. Phuket town is fairly busy all day round with markets along the main streets and a decent amount of restaurants and bars for those who enjoy a bit of nightlife (although not as crazy a Patong).
